Happy Birthday SuperSubmit! Have Some Pie.

It was a year ago that we tackled the problem of contact forms, how they’re submitted, the issues of managing that type of process, and  turned situation of lemons into.. lemon-aid?  Nah, here we make lemon PIE.  MMmm..  I do love pie.

On a side note, if you love pies, and live in the Victoria, BC area, you absolutely must check out Saltchuck Pie Company!  Hngh, now I’m hungry just thinking about their meat pies..

The History

Back in July of 2014, the federal government passed legislation that made the sending of unsolicited emails a very punishable offense.  Ten million dollars per offense is a pretty hefty fine.

We have always been above board with our emails, however we did have a service that we offered for our customers called “submit.server-apps.com” — this was a free service and it had worked pretty well for a number of years but there was the opportunity for it to be exploited to send spam.

So we were forced to retire the system by January 1st, 2015.  It took us an additional three months to build its replacement, but how sweet it is, the result, when you take your time to do it right.

What we built

March 24th, 2015, we launched SuperSubmit.co — we still offered the basic form handling service to those who purchase one of our website templates, however we also developed a number of extended features, in the Standard and Pro plans, that were never before available.  When you purchase any of our web templates, you get the Basic plan free — pretty cool huh!

Anti Spam Protection (all plans)

This was a feature that was not easily offered with previous form handling solutions.  With SuperSubmit, it was now  quick and easy to integrate the Google reCAPTCHA anti-spam widget.  This feature is included with every plan, from Basic up to Pro. The latest version of reCAPTCHA simply prompts the visitor to check a checkbox stating “I am not a robot”.

Secure Submissions via HTTPS (all plans)

All form submission are sent to our system over HTTPS. In fact, if you have the Professional plan, when you review your submissions online, your form submission data is protected via HTTPS.

Customizable Completion URL (all plans)

Easily specify where you want the visitor to be sent to once they submit their form (such as a confirmation page on your site). If left blank, the user is returned to the page that they submitted the form from.

Customizable Email Subject (standard, pro)

Choose from pre-designed subject lines, or build your own.

File Uploads (standard, pro)

Included with the Standard and Professional plans is the ability to allow file uploads through your form. Download the files at any time for up to 30 days.

File Uploads Virus Scanning (standard, pro)

When files are uploaded to the SuperSubmit system, we first scan then before allowing them to be downloaded.

Custom Send From Email (SMTP) (pro)

With SMTP Pass-through, emails from our system will be sent from your own email account, rather than from our noreply@ email account. This gives you the ability to keep with your website brand.

Customer Receipt of Message (pro)

Send off a receipt message to your customer/visitor once they submit their email. This feature requires the SMTP Mail Passthrough feature to be enabled.

Form Submission History (pro)

Review recent submissions with the submission history with the Pro plan. This also gives you the opportunity to re-download any associated files, as well as delete out old submissions.

Export Form Results (pro)

Through the Submission History interface, you can choose multiple entries to be exported as a CSV (Comma Separated Values) formatted file.

Resend Submission (pro)

Also through the Submission History interface, you may have a submission resent to your administrative recipients.

Logic Based Confirmation (pro)

A very powerful feature that allows you to define a set of logic to “send the user to such-and-such URL if they specify this in that field”.

The Road Ahead

Pies, probably more pies.  Truthfully, form submission handling is a fairly routine operation, but embellishing the basic functionality with meaningful features is what SuperSubmit.co is all about.  The plan is to build out a form building option in SuperSubmit so that you can leave the HTML coding to a wizard as well.  We have the building blocks already in place for this, so look for this coming later in 2016.

Have Some Pie

Oh, just about forgot.  Our “Professional” plan (all the bells and whistles), is currently available for just $15/month, normally $20/month.  Take a look at all the features currently available.
