Big news about the Oxygen website design this week — Colin is just about ready to launch the website template, and should have it in the catalog ( by the end of next week.  He’ll continue work on the WordPress theme after that.

But while I was talking to Colin this week, I realized that there is this hidden metric about your visitors that most people could be completely unaware of, that if they only knew about it and just sped up their website, they could have more visitors.

If your website is too slow, your visitors (and potential customers) will go elsewhere. [Interactive #68 – S2E16]

This week, we were benchmarking the server-response time for a client’s website.  To do that, we used a third party service.  To find the third party service, we googled “website speed test” and clicked on the first link.

Unfortunately, that link wouldn’t load.  Or rather, I was too impatient to wait for it to load.

So I went elsewhere and used a different service.

Let this be a lesson: if your website is too slow, your visitors (and potential customers) will go elsewhere.
