Group page elements
In Page view, do the
following:
Place
elements in a position box
- Click Show All
on the standard toolbar to display paragraph markers.
- In the Normal pane,
position the insertion point where you want to put a
position box, and then press ENTER twice to insert a new
blank line.
- Select the blank line, making sure to include the
paragraph marker.
- On the Format menu,
click Position.
- Choose a positioning style:
- Use relative positioning so the position box moves
with the text flow: Under
Positioning style,
click Relative, and then
click OK.
- Use absolute positioning so the position box is
independent of the text flow: Under
Positioning style,
click Absolute, and then
click OK.
- Click inside the position box, and then insert a page
element.
- Select the page element.
- On the Format menu,
click Position, and then
click Absolute.
- Repeat steps 6 through 8 for each page element you want
to place in the position box.
Tip
You can also specify several properties by using the
Positioning toolbar. To
display the Positioning
toolbar, click the View menu,
point to Toolbars, and
then click Positioning.
Specify
the location of a position box
The
position box must have absolute
positioning applied; otherwise it will move with the text
flow of the page. Follow the procedure in the preceding
section (Place elements in a position box) if you want to
apply absolute positioning.
- Hide paragraph markers and HTML tags if they're
activated.
How?
- Hide HTML tags — On the View
menu, click Reveal Tags.
- Hide paragraph markers — Click
Show All
to hide paragraph markers.
Important HTML tags and nonprinting characters
are not part of the layout, but when you display them on the
screen while editing, they change the appearance of the
layout.
- Specify the element's location:
- To move the element, point to the position box border
until the cursor changes to a four-headed arrow, click to
hold, and then drag the element to the new location.
- To set pixel coordinates, specify a value in the
Left and
Top boxes on the
Positioning toolbar.
Tip
You can also specify several properties by
using the Positioning
toolbar. To display the
Positioning toolbar, click the
View menu, point to
Toolbars, and then click
Positioning.
