Files and folders that FrontPage creates
Microsoft FrontPage creates the following files and folders
for a web site:
General
files and folders

images
- Created to store pictures, videos, and other images.

pasted images
- If you paste graphics files into pages, when you save
the web site, FrontPage prompts you to save the pictures in
GIF
or
JPEG
format, depending on the type of pictures they are.

animate.js
- If you use
Dynamic HTML (DHTML) effects to animate page elements,
FrontPage creates a file named animate.js in the root folder
of your web site.

outline.js
- If you enable collapsible outlines for bulleted or
numbered lists, FrontPage creates a file named outline.js in
the root folder of your web site.
Database-related
files and folders
-
fpdb
- If you create a new database to hold form results, or if
you use the sample data connection provided by the Database
Results Wizard and the Database Interface Wizard, FrontPage
creates a folder called fpdb (if it doesn't already exist)
and uploads files with the .mdb extension (Access database
files) to it.

Dataconnection_interface
- If you add database functionality using the Database
Interface Wizard, FrontPage creates a folder named
Dataconnection_interface, where Dataconnection is
the name of your database connection.

- If you add database functionality using the Database
Interface Wizard, FrontPage creates a folder named Table,
where Table is the name of the database table or view
you choose.

- If you add database functionality using the Database
Interface Wizard, FrontPage creates a folder named editor to
contain the pages to administer your web site.

- If you use the Database Interface Wizard to add a
submission form, FrontPage creates a file called
submission_form.asp.

merely merges the new information into it.
Themes
and class files

theme1.css
- If you select the
Apply using CSS check box for a theme applied to a web
site, FrontPage creates a file named Theme1.css in
the root web site, where Theme is the name of the
theme.

fphoverx.class
- If you add hover buttons to your pages, FrontPage
creates files named Fphover.class and Fphoverx.class in your
root web site.
- Note If you have Visual J++ installed, the
folder list icon for these files might look like a globe.

fprotate.class,
fprotatx.class
- If you add banner ads to your pages, FrontPage creates
files named Fprotate.class and Fprotatx.class in your root
web site.
Hidden
files and folders

_private
- Created to store form results and any other files that
you want to keep hidden from site visitors browsing your web
site.

filename.cnt
- If you add a
hit counter to your web site, filename.cnt is is
created in the _private folder, where filename is the
name and extension of the page on which the hit counter is
located.

_sharedtemplates
- If you create shared templates for a web site, FrontPage
creates a hidden folder named _sharedtemplates in your root
web site.

_fpclass
- If you create a page that contains a database results
region, of if you save form results to a database, FrontPage
creates an _fpclass folder.

_fpclass/fpdblib.inc
- Fpdblib.inc is one of the files in the _fpclass folder
containing the Active Server Page s used to implement
the server-side functionality for database features.

_fpclass/fpdbrgn1.inc,
fpdbrgn2.inc
- Fpdbrgn1.inc and fpdbrgn2.inc are files in the _fpclass
folder containing the Active Server Page s used to
implement the server-side functionality for database
features.

- If you save form results to a database, FrontPage
creates Fpdbform.inc in the _fpclass folder.

_borders
- Stores files that make up shared borders.

_derived
- Stores information such as names of currently checked
out files and the HTML extension (.htx) used by Microsoft
Indexing Service.

_disc
- Stores files necessary for threaded discussions using
FrontPage Server Extensions (but not SharePoint Team
Services).

_themes
- Stores files used for creating themes, such as cascading
style sheets and images.

_vti_cnf
- Stores information about every file, such as who
modified it and when, its source control settings, and so
on.

_vti_pvt
- Stores all of the configuration information for a web
site, such as what subwebs reside below the root web, the
version of the extensions, and permission configurations.
SharePoint Team Services files and folders

- Created when you add a document library to a web site
hosted on a server that is running SharePoint Team Services.

survey folder
- Created when you add a survey to a web site hosted on on
a server that is running SharePoint Team Services.

list folder
- Created when you add a survey to a web site hosted on on
a server that is running SharePoint Team Services.
