Import a database
About
importing a database into your web site
- A database imported into a server-based web site can be
used without the involvement of a server administrator or
Internet service provider (ISP). A
System DSN (system DSN: A
system data source name is specific to a local computer. The
system or any user with privileges can use a data source
that is set up with a system DSN.), on the other
hand, requires access to the resources and file system of
the web server.
- If you have a disk-based web site that you want to
publish to a server-based web site, the database on the
disk-based web site, and the database connection, will
transfer to the server-based web site during publishing. You
won't need to create a new database connection on the
destination web site or involve a server administrator or
your ISP.
- If the database you're importing is a Microsoft Access
database, you will be asked to create a database connection
and to store the file in the Fpdb folder. Permissions are
set for the Fpdb folder specifying that the folder can't be
viewed in a Web browser. You can protect the privacy of your
database by moving it into the Fpdb folder.
- Also with an Access database, you can enter data into
the database through a web interface. The data will then be
available to other Microsoft Office applications that can
connect to Access databases.
